Andrew founded 5Lion Ventures as a vehicle to make early stage investments in emerging technology companies. In 2013, Andrew founded 5Lion’s first portfolio company. The BTLR app is a digital concierge service for live sporting and entertainment events looking to enhance the fan experience and drive in-venue engagement.
As an entrepreneur himself, Mr. Welters has sat on both sides of the table. His experience in building from the ground up gives him a unique operator-first perspective that drives decision making when it comes to evaluating and conducting diligence on prospective ideas, teams, and investments.
A native Washingtonian, Welters serves on the board of The Washington Jesuit Academy as the head of the development committee. He is also on Advisory councils of The Maret School and the AnBryce Foundation. Mr. Welters received a B.A. in History from the University of Notre Dame.
Ron Russo spent 18 years working in the investment management industry prior to joining 5Lion. During that time, Mr. Russo was employed by a number of hedge funds, most recently as a Portfolio Manager and Partner at a New York based, real estate- focused hedge fund. Mr. Russo focused most intensely on managing three portfolios of publicly traded real estate securities, but was also an integral part of the marketing, fundraising and operational aspects of the fund. Over the course of his career, Mr. Russo made a number of private equity and angel investments personally. Those experiences ultimately led him to Venture Investing at 5Lion.
Mr. Russo grew up in Brooklyn, New York and graduated Colby College with a B.A. in Economics, Concentration in Financial Markets in 1999. He currently spends his free time running after his two sons with his wife, Gina.
